Nigel Milford
Both my brother and uncle are chartered accountants and having graduated from Cardiff University in Accountancy and Law myself, it was little surprise to anyone that I joined one of the Big 4 firms. Three years later I couldn’t believe my luck when I was approached to join the International Audit team of a Fortune 500 company travelling throughout Europe, Africa and the USA (at their expense!!!).
So, in 1986 when I told my parents I was going into recruitment, they were more than a little taken aback. Very quickly however, we all realized I had found my perfect niche. I had always been more interested in the people making the numbers rather than the numbers themselves and here at last was a job that enabled me to use my knowledge of accountants rather than accounting.
Now having enjoyed a long and successful career with a leading global recruitment business in London, Hong Kong and most recently in Canada, I am excited to join the Stevenson & White team as Managing Partner of the new Toronto operation. Despite having worked on different continents for most of our careers, it was evident from my first meeting with Anne and Trevor that we shared the same DNA - work hard, keep it simple and remember to have fun - success will follow!
What drew me to recruitment 23 years ago still holds true. I love the constant interaction with people and the challenge of establishing and maintaining long lasting relationships with such a wide variety of people at all levels. I love the consultative nature of the work, helping people identify not just the next job but the ideal environment in which they could truly realize their full potential.
